Nuove Case Block: Public Open Spaces

2022/23

The block Nuove Case was born as a conversion of old warehouses that were located to the east side of the historic buildings. The new residential buildings occupy less than half of this area, leaving free area for public spaces. These are constituted by a green park and a pavilion. The pavilion is made out by an external metallic structure that doesn’t interfere with the interior space and support a wide overhanging roof that protects the building from the summer heat and cold humidity in the winter. There is a small cafe at a ground floor and a multi functional space at the second floor. The toilettes and the other service spaces are outside, so they are easily accessible to the public and don’t occupy the small space inside the pavilion. The cafe service space and a small technical area are the only parts located under the pavilion’s roof. The main materials used for the exterior are wood (same as the adjacent residential buildings) and glass, mainly used for more transparency at the ground floor and limited to the areas facing the park at the second floor.
